Rheology Modifier

Rheology Modifier is a specialized functional additive system engineered to dynamically adjust the melt flow behavior, shear sensitivity, and viscoelastic profile of thermoplastic resins during high-shear compounding and conversion. Formulated using precision-branched polymers, reactive oligomers, and synthetic flow agents, this additive acts directly at the macromolecular interface to alter molecular entanglement networks. It enables compounders to tailor the melt flow index (MFI) and melt strength of commodity and engineering polymers—such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polyamides (PA)—without inducing polymer chain degradation or sacrificing mechanical tensile and impact strength in finished goods.

Rheology Modifier expands processing windows across extrusion blow molding, blown film production, thermoforming, and thin-wall injection molding by eliminating typical melt flow instabilities. Under high-shear conditions within the extruder barrel, it reduces apparent viscosity, lowering back-pressure, melt temperatures, and motor power consumption. Conversely, under low-shear conditions at the die exit, it imparts high melt elasticity and extensional viscosity, preventing parison sag in hollow container production, bubble fluttering in blown film, and sheet neck-in during casting operations. It is an indispensable processing tool for upcycling recycled post-consumer resins (PCR), restoring melt consistency, and optimizing high-filler masterbatch formulations.
