Rheology Modifier
Rheology Modifier is a high-performance processing additive engineered specifically to regulate melt flow behavior, enhance shear-thinning response, and eliminate melt instabilities during high-speed cable extrusion. As wire and cable formulations incorporate heavy mineral loadings—such as aluminum trihydrate (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MDH) in Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR/LSZH) systems—melt viscosity increases substantially, causing severe extruder back-pressure, high motor load, and mechanical shear overheating. This modifier restructures the polymer melt interface, optimizing viscoelasticity to maintain steady, uniform polymer delivery across crosshead dies without causing thermal polymer degradation or scorch around delicate conductors.
Rheology Modifier directly addresses surface defects and dimensional inconsistency on high-throughput continuous extrusion lines. By suppressing melt fracture (sharkskin) and controlling die swell, it ensures concentric, uniform wall thickness, smooth surface jacket finishes, and razor-sharp stripping characteristics across high-speed insulation and sheathing operations. The additive remains chemically inert relative to electrical properties, causing zero deterioration in dielectric strength, volume resistivity, or long-term thermal aging performance. Compatible with polyolefin, EVA, cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE), and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) matrices, it provides cable manufacturers with an effective tool to increase line speeds, reduce die drool, and minimize scrap rates.
